About the room

Up for rent is a large room on the second floor of a newly purchased, semi-detached home in a vibrant neighbourhood just north of Chinatown.

The house has both old world charm (it’s 118 years old), and new world conveniences (renovated in 2015). Features include: beautiful hardwood floors and original finishes, a huge kitchen, living room, and dining room, updated appliances (gas stove, fancy oven, big fridge, & mid sized dishwasher - I like to cook - and washer/dryer), central air conditioning, and a back deck for outdoor dining and lounging from spring to fall. There’s also a huge amount of storage in the basement.

The room is mid-sized (about 128 x 125 inches) and includes a window (with curtains), and two built-in closets and a small indentation, perfect for a desk or dresser. The room is otherwise unfurnished, and includes access to a shared office on the second floor.

The house is located in a quiet, mixed-class neighbourhood within striking distance of just about everything (and 7 minutes walk to Pimisi LRT station if you need to get someplace else!). Local features include: restaurants (Chinatown is about two blocks away), groceries, running and biking routes (Ottawa River Parkway adjoins stairs at the corner of the street), the War Museum, and everything else that downtown Ottawa has to offer.

About the roomies

I (the renter and other occupant of the house) am a 32 year old, single native of Vancouver who has been based in Ottawa for the past 8 years or so. I’ve built my career around health and healthcare policy, and have interests in folk music, politics, science, literature, technology and board games / video games. I also enjoy running, ultimate frisbee, and baking pies. Please be LGBTQ2S+ friendly as I’m gay and a bunch of my friends are too.

I’m a new homeowner so all bets are off as to whether I’m a good landlord. But I can say that I’m friendly, and since I live in the place you can bet I’ll be treating it - and you - well. As a roommate I would describe myself as “companionable”. I’m not roommate-clingy, but I enjoy having someone around to share stories, experiences, recipes, and the comeradely grumpiness of the daily grind. I have close friends, but I’m not crazy outgoing socially, so if you’re the type that will bring interesting people into the house: so much the better! This place is made for entertaining (when not in a world-melting pandemic…)
