Hanika

I am a soon-to-be 27 year old student who defended my Master’s degree on May 26. I will begin my PhD in September, and have several scholarships, so I am reliable. I have been living alone or with roommates for a number of years in Winnipeg and in Japan, but this is going to be my first time in Halifax. I am an early riser because I row, but I am used to getting up and having coffee in silence. I have a number of food allergies – celiac disease, nuts and seafood – but apart from what I cannot eat, I am not fussy at all. I love all sports. I am quiet and not the partying type at all, though I love a good get together over a meal with friends. I identify as an Amami Islander, the southern islands in Japan, and am fluent in Japanese. I am a fervent ally and big supporter of LBGTQ+ communities, and am committed to anti-oppressive practices of all sorts. I am friendly, and most people think I am outgoing even though I love alone time and quietness. I am committed to the Halifax area for at least the next two years, since my program of studies, candidacy exams, and proposal will take that long.
