Hello! I’m looking for a roommate to share this dreamy two bedroom barn suite in Saanich!

Rent is $700/month plus hydro/propane/wifi. (It comes out to somewhat over $800/month over the course of a year.) Available for August 1st with the potential for an earlier move in.

General info:

The suite is located on a farm and tucked into the woods on the north side of PKOLS (Cordova Bay Rd by Blenkinsop). It feels rural but it’s just over 30 minutes by bike to town. I’ve lived here for almost 5 years and I love it!

I’m looking for someone who also wants a clean, quiet and organized place to call home and is also looking to live out of the city. The suite is spacious and open concept with a rustic vibe.

No smoking or pets in the unit (allergies/asthma). Scent reduced.

I like to have quiet hours from 10pm to 7am and looking for someone on the same schedule.

I’m looking for someone who is continuing to be covid cautious. I’m triple vaxxed and will get a fourth dose as soon as I’m eligible. I also wear an N-95 in all indoor public spaces, am communicative about risk factors and avoid higher risk environments such as indoor dining, exercise and events and do my socializing outdoors whenever possible. I’m looking to live with someone who is practicing a similar level of caution (masking, vaccinated, limiting high-risk activities).

Looking for us to sign roommate agreements prior to move-in.

About the space:

The room is unfurnished and very spacious. There’s plenty of room for a large bed plus desk setup. The shared space is furnished. Washer and dryer in the suite, dishwasher, microwave, stove, fridge, deep freezer, bathtub and shower. There’s room for more bookshelves etc in the living room and extra storage space in the garage downstairs.

The farm has tons of outdoor space for hanging out, a campfire ring and backs onto the park with trails up PKOLS. There’s a swimming cove around the corner.

The barn is at the very top of a long gravel driveway. On the routes of the #39 (UVic/Langford) and #32 (Cordova Bay/Royal Oak) buses. That said, it tends to be a quite challenging location if you’re reliant on the bus. Close to the Lochside Trail (km 9) and it’s a flat bike ride into town (30 to 45 min). Lots of parking if you have a vehicle and room for your bike(s) in the garage downstairs. It’s a short drive into town or up the peninsula.

The suite is up a flight of 19 wooden stairs outside. It’s all one level once you’re inside. There are hardwood floors in the living area and carpet in the bedrooms. There’s a lot of natural light (windows and skylight), electric lights are mainly on dimmer switches. Windows all have screens. It’s a pretty quiet location (not much traffic noise since we’re far from the road; some farm/construction noise), but there is a lack of sound proofing in the suite in general. Baseboard heaters in the bedroom/bathroom and propane fireplace in the common area.

I’m a queer farmer in my mid-twenties (they/them pronouns) and I run a veggie farm next door. My summers are super full on with the farm and then I’m home quite a bit over the winter.

I really love having a calm, cozy home. Working together to keep the space clean and tidy is important to me. As is having roommate relationships where there’s good communication in both directions. It’s great to have chats, and also be able to recognize our needs for alone time. In the winter, I’m always down to work on a puzzle together by the fire, play a board game or share a cup of tea.

In my free time I like reading, doing crafts, drinking tea, learning about plants, going on hikes and camping. I like hosting the occasional tea party in the orchard or having a friend or two over for dinner but I’m not into big parties.

I’m looking for a roommate who is quiet, communicative, clean/tidy, and able to uphold our shared roommate agreement. It’s a great spot for a grad/mature student, anyone who wants easy access to nature when they come home from work or someone who’s happy to set up a home office in their big bedroom!
