Kate's room

This ad is for the partially furnished (if you want!) one bedroom basement suite in a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house. The basement is it’s own mini suite with a fridge, stove, kitchen sink, and microwave included. It has a small living space as well and it’s own bathroom with a standing shower. The basement suite also has it’s own entrance! You would also still be very welcome to use the shared main floor living space and larger kitchen if you wanted to!

The basement can come partially furnished if you’d like - there’s a leather couch, comfy chair, small kitchen table with 2 chairs, and a wardrobe.

From May until August we estimate to spend around $100-$150 each for all monthly utilities (wifi, water, waste services, electric, natural gas) (depending on weather of course)!

The house is situated in an amazing location along a quiet, tree-lined street only a block from the UofA hospital, less than 10 minutes to walk to Whyte ave or the UofA campus/an LRT station, and under 5 minutes to walk to multiple bus stops! There are tons of bike lanes around and the area is very pedestrian friendly - we all basically walk or transit to anywhere we need to go :)

There is a small garage in the back that can be used to park a small car but there is also available outdoor parking spaces in the back for yourself or guests. Temporary street parking permits can also be applied for through the city!

There is a large, fenced backyard that Bailey (Mack’s dog) enjoys. The house is pet friendly (under case-by-case approval from the landlord) and we are definitely open to living with someone with a dog or a cat. A small pet fee is likely to be asked for by the landlord.

The shared kitchen and living space is large with lots of natural light. The kitchen has a dishwasher and fridge/freezer. Full shared laundry room in the basement as well. Mackenzie has a microwave and toaster oven that she let’s everyone use and share responsibility for keeping clean. We have lots of shared dishes, pans, storage containers etc. that we don’t mind sharing - of course assuming everyone is respectful of these things!

The current roomies are myself (Kate), Mackenzie and Kody. Mackenzie also has a 2 year old, Coonhound-Border Collie mixed dog named Bailey!

We are all 22 year old students at the UofA. I’m in Nursing, Mackenzie just graduated from Education and Kody is in Engineering! Bailey is a shy, medium-size dog but she warms up pretty quickly (especially if you sneak her some snacks ;))

Over the summer, it will mostly just be me and Mackenzie (and Bailey) living in the house as Kody is going back home.

We will both be working full-time this summer so won’t be home a ton! In general though, we love to have friends over, go out on the weekends as we’re able to, and host parties every once in awhile :) On nights when we’re both home we love to cook dinner together, take Bailey for walks, and binge-watch whatever the latest reality show is on Netflix. We’d love to find someone who wants to be friends as well as housemates :)

Keeping shared spaces clean and tidy and communicating respectfully if issues arise is our biggest ask! Our house often looks “lived-in” as everyone has pretty busy schedules especially with school - but overall we try to keep things clean and especially sanitary!
