About the room

Hello! I’m looking to rent out 1 of the bedrooms in a 2-bedroom main floor plus upper floor/loft-ish area of an older house for a short term (approx. September-January, with some flexibility on either end) in Mount Pleasant/Riley Park.

Can definitely share more photos for serious inquiries, it just feels a bit vulnerable to post them off the hop for security reasons, thanks for understanding!

Your Space:

The available bedroom is the bigger of the two, and is on the main floor, so not too hot for the rest of summer :) Also included in your own space would be the use of the upper loft area for your own office, work from home or what-not, if you wanted it.

Shared Spaces and House Amenities:

  • Kitchen with dishwasher
  • Living room
  • Bathroom
  • Laundry
  • Upper-floor storage
  • Cute front porch and backyard with a little mini garden
  • There is free street parking in front of the house if you drive

Location & House Layout:

The house is located on a quiet street with mostly families and older adults nearby and is in Mt. Pleasant/Riley Park. It’s a quick stroll, bike, or roll to Main Street and very near Hillcrest Rec Centre, Riley Park Farmer’s Market, Nat Bailey Stadium, Queen E park, Bloedel Conservatory/Van Dusen Gardens etc. It’s also very near King Edward and Cambie street which have fairly good transit connections. The house has a sweet little backyard and front porch area. The place is mostly furnished except for a bed for your room. Please note that there is a flight of stairs in and out of the house in the front and back, and there are some tighter doorways and hallways to navigate inside which may present barriers for those with mobility challenges.

Length of Availability:

The owners of the house are moving in and demoing part of the house in the new year and so I’m on a short-term lease until the end of January 2024. There is the potential to go month-to-month after January, but this depends on their construction and permit plans. There is also a separate basement suite which is occupied by some lovely and quiet folks.

Space Capacity and Rental Rate:

Open to 1 or 2 people. Please let me know if it would just be you that’s interested, or you and another. The bedroom would be totally fine for a couple, or duo of some kind that shares a bedroom, or nice for just 1 person too. The monthly rental rate would be $1500 for an individual or $2000 for a pair, plus a share in some utilities (internet is already included in the rental rate). I have not been here long yet so I am not certain of the utility costs, but I anticipate it could be between $75 to 150 per person (the latter price I’m estimating for the cooler months).

About the roomies

Who Lives Here:

It’s me (Ginni, 35 y.o) and my dog Skeena who live here, hi! I am a master’s student in Occupational Therapy, as well as an artist, who is also working a bit for the summer while I wait for my next practicum. I value my quiet time while at home, but I also work and study in a field that is people-centric, so I do like to be social, have a tea and a laugh, and do things like cook and eat together occasionally with a roommate(s) if we get along well. Skeena is a super loving pup but has some quirks (like all of us), so we would need to have someone living with us that loves and understands all kinds of pups/personalities and is cool with accommodating some of those things :) Unfortunately, we can’t have anyone join us who has any pets themselves, but as mentioned would love someone who enjoys having a dog around. Skeena is very affectionate towards people she trusts and so would likely want to be quite friendly with whoever lives with us.

I am happy to chat more in case there’s anything I missed. Let me know if you have any questions at all. Thank you!
