Male · 33 years · PhD student
Looking in: Toronto, ON.
Description
I’m an artist, translator and editor currently based in Chicago. I speak English, French, and bits and pieces of several other languages. I recently completed an MA in History at McGill and was just accepted to the PhD program in History at University of Toronto. I’ve been to Toronto twice and loved it, but am otherwise not extremely familiar with the city. My budget (including utilities) is CAD 1,500/ month, negotiable.
About me:
I’m Anticolonial. Non-smoker. I’ll have a drink every once in a while. Love animals, but no pets of my own. I’m mixed (Anishinaabe, Michif, French, Romanian, etc.).
I love art, books, movies, live music, history, languages. I cook a lot from scratch, so will be in the kitchen often. When not cooking/cleaning, I am usually reading, writing, making art, watching a movie (on low volume or with airpods). I like to have a friend or two over sometimes for coffee/tea, dinner, or whatever. I’m open to having small parties a couple times a year, depending on how spacious the apartment is. If I’m out of town and you want to have a party, go wild. When not at home or school, I will likely be at the gym, out with friends, at museums, art galleries, concerts, book readings, community events, parties, the beach, etc. I anticipate travelling at least once per semester, and quite a bit in the summer. I would like to occasionally host friends from out of town, for around a few days at a time (never more than one friend at a time). I try my best to give a heads up when a friend is coming over, especially if they’re spending the night. I’ve lived in many different flat shares / house shares in seven cities in four countries. I’ve had countless flatmates / roommates over the last 15 years and like to think that I’m a pretty good roommate at this point. I am communicative, open-minded, laidback, and tidy.
The apartment I’m looking for: •Open-concept preferred but not required •Nice big kitchen, updated appliances (especially vent / kitchen hood above stove) •Lots of natural light throughout the apartment •Medium to large size room •A nice view of cityscape or nature would be great •En-suite bathroom would be great, but not required •I can live in a taller building (around 10 stories), but absolutely cannot live in a skyscraper. •The closer to University of Toronto (especially the Athletic Center) the better •Proximity to public transportation, good grocery stores, French bakeries, cafés, wine shop, a plus.
No basement apartments / units / bedrooms
The ideal roommate: •Male preferred, but open to all genders •Around my age, more or less (33). •Communicative; No avoidant-dismissive people •Helps to keep the apartment tidy. (The place does not need to be 100% spotless 24/7 or smell like bleach all the time. I like to do a light cleaning of the common spaces about once every week or so. I generally leave my shoes near the doorway, especially in the winter. I usually do my dishes within a couple hours of eating.) •Open-minded •Not a cop, soldier, zionist, oil worker, capitalist, finance bro, etc. •I’m not necessarily looking for a best friend, but would like to live in an apartment that feels warm, friendly, and peaceful
