Hi! I’m a 42-year-old photographer, visual artist, and interdisciplinary arts student at NSCAD. I’m originally from the States, with a rather nomadic history that’s taken me through the UK, Scotland, and plenty of places in between. I’ve recently made Halifax my home and am looking for somewhere comfortable to put down some roots while I finish my degree over the next two years.

I’m creative, curious, thoughtful, fairly independent, and a little unconventional. I love surrealist art, cult films, eclectic music, philosophy, fascinating conversations, and exploring interesting corners of the city. I’ve collected a ridiculous number of stories and experiences over the years, and I’m always up for an interesting conversation or a spontaneous little adventure. That said, I’m definitely more of an artsy city dweller than an outdoorsy adventurer! 😂

What I’m looking for:

Ideally, a clean, relaxed, welcoming home on the Halifax peninsula, with considerate people who appreciate both good company and personal space. I’d love to find roommates who might eventually become friends, but I’m equally happy in a household where everyone is friendly, respectful, and comfortably independent.

I’ve lived in several large intentional communities, so I’m very familiar with shared living, intergenerational households with folxs of all ages, genders, ethnicities, orientations, etc., communal responsibilities, and navigating different personalities. I value kindness, direct communication, mutual consideration, and a healthy sense of humour. I appreciate a household where people can communicate openly, address little issues before they become big ones, and generally give each other the benefit of the doubt.

I take shared chores and responsibilities seriously and believe everyone should contribute fairly to keeping a home comfortable and functional. Because I live with some physical disabilities, my capacity and energy can fluctuate, so I appreciate a household where there’s some flexibility around how and when things get done, provided everyone is doing their part.

I also value a relaxed, autonomous living environment. I’m considerate of how my actions affect others and happy to agree on reasonable shared expectations, but I don’t thrive in households with overly rigid rules or where ordinary day-to-day activities are closely monitored or micromanaged. I believe adults should be able to live comfortably in their own home, with mutual respect, common sense, and room for individual differences.

I’m generally quiet at home, especially when I’m studying or immersed in creative projects, but I enjoy the occasional shared meal, kitchen conversation, or evening of music. I respect people’s privacy and appreciate a home where everyone feels comfortable being themselves. I’m not looking for a party house, but I don’t want a home that feels like a library either!

A few practical considerations:

I have some physical disabilities, so accessibility and a considerate, understanding household are especially important to me. Minimal stairs, a manageable commute to NSCAD, and convenient public transit are priorities. I don’t drive, so a central location makes a real difference.

I’m a non-smoker, LGBTQ+ friendly, and looking for a cannabis-friendly household. I’m respectful of other people’s boundaries and keep my personal practices discreet.

Ultimately, I’m hoping to find somewhere that feels like a home rather than just a room to rent. A little warmth, mutual respect, independence, and good communication go a long way with me.
