Unique Farm Roommate Situation — Cheap/Free Rent for the Right Fit
I’m looking for the right roommate or possibly a family who would enjoy living on a farm and wants a very affordable place to live.
The property has tons of space, basically unlimited parking, lots of outdoor room, and room for animals. I’m a huge dog person — honestly, if you have 10 dogs, you might be my perfect roommate. 😂 Dogs, cats, horses, goats, cows or other animals can potentially all be worked out. Kids are absolutely welcome too.
I also want to be upfront about why I’m looking for someone: housekeeping is not my strength. I’m messy, I accumulate too much stuff, and I’m terrible at staying on top of cooking and cleaning. I’d love to find someone who is naturally good at that stuff and doesn’t mind keeping me accountable and helping keep the house functioning.
Normal rent would be around $1,000/month, but I’m very open to substantially reducing that — potentially all the way to $0 rent for the right arrangement — in exchange for an agreed amount of help with things like cleaning, organizing, cooking and general household upkeep.
I’m especially interested in someone who might currently be in a tough situation where affordable housing would make a real difference, but I’m not looking for just anybody. The personality fit and living arrangement have to work for everyone.
There’s lots of space here, lots of animals around, and this could be a pretty unique opportunity for the right person.
If this sounds like something that could work for you, send me a message telling me a bit about yourself, who would be living with you, any pets/animals you have, and what kind of arrangement you’re looking for.
About the roomies
I’m currently the only person living in the farmhouse, along with my dog, who is basically my best friend. This is the house I grew up in with my parents and four siblings, so it’s a large family home, but these days I only use a fraction of it.
My parents now live in a separate newer house on the same property, roughly 300–400 feet away. There are no other roommates in the farmhouse.
There is a full kitchen upstairs that can be shared, and the laundry is positioned nicely so it can be accessed from both the upstairs and downstairs areas.
The downstairs is currently not being used at all. It has its own bathroom and shower, and I’m looking into putting in a complete second kitchen, which would make the downstairs much more self-contained. The foundation was recently redone, so part of the downstairs is currently exposed stud framing, while the other portion is finished but not furnished. I’m completely open to furnishing and improving the space for the right person.
Basically, I have far more house and property than I personally need. I’m looking for the right person, couple, or family where we can help each other out. If someone is motivated to help me get the house organized, cleaned up and functioning better, I’m very motivated to help them by making the living arrangement affordable and giving them a good place to call home.
I’m very easygoing about animals as well. I have plenty of room here, and dogs especially are more than welcome.
