About the room
The space:
ποΈ Your own private bedroom in a 2-bedroom apartment
πΆ Room to set up a NAS server or small workstation β ideal if youβre a software developer or sysadmin
π§Ί In-building washers & dryers (card access)
π’ Quiet, well-managed building
Location & transit:
π Close to the Canada Line SkyTrain β 25 minutes to central Vancouver
π Groceries and business-centre amenities less than 10 minutes away on foot
π Bus stop is 1 minute away, itβs 1 stop to the train
π Easy access to Langara, Kwantlen, and downtown colleges
π UBC is a bit of a stretch (1β1.5 hrs by train + bus), though the new SkyTrain extension will speed that up
Who Iβm looking for:
This is a great fit if youβre a software developer, system administrator, engineering or grad student, or an airline worker who wants a safe, quiet crashpad (itβs about 30 minutes by train to the airport).
If you are at UBC, a 2-hour round-trip commute caps out around 3 courses, so this keeps things manageable for a slim course load.
About me: Iβm male, considerate, and quiet. I respect your space and your time. In return Iβd just ask the same of you β clean, respectful, good-natured.
How to reach out:
Send me a short message telling me a bit about yourself β your goals, your situation, your budget, and what youβre looking for in a living arrangement. Weβll hop on to chat and then go from there.
Looking forward to meeting you! β¨
About the roomies
Iβm from Vancouver and offering a room to rent, either short-term or long-term, starting around December 1st. Iβd like to offer the space to someone a bit studious or tech-tilted, so the rhythm of the house feels compatible and aligned, though Iβve learned over the years that some people click well even when theyβre focused on different skills.
A little about me:
Iβve pivoted over the years from various academic subjects, usually funded through other types of work. For the last fifteen years Iβve focused on tech (and economics), and my last year or so has been again a bit of a pivot. Iβve just completed a teaching certificate and Iβm building out a small series of affordable, AI-focused courses as part of that.
Alongside that, Iβve got a few side projects going. Iβm pretty keen about those and on some level the prospect of collaboration is a selling point.
I keep a whiteboard in the common area β nothing elaborate. I use it for scheduling and household notes.
I have several whiteboards in my own space, which may give you an idea of what Iβm up to: writing down goals, taking notes, learning a lot of new things.
I like to think of the apartment as a small-space station, because it gives it an organized and focused feel: a place where people can be a little productive without the whole environment feeling overly performative.
As a roommate:
Iβd describe myself as goal-oriented in the quiet, internal way. I like having things in motion, but the material Iβm working with is time and energy intensive β itβs not the kind of stuff you can do offhandedly; you really have to hone in on it.
I care about being patient, listening, and making shared spaces feel workable for everyone. I think that mostly comes down to respecting each otherβs space, keeping commitments to the basics of living together, and not dragging your worst stress into the rest of the house (apartment).
I am a positive person, and Iβd prefer to live with someone who has some kind of project, study, or goal of their own β even if itβs unrelated to tech. I find that energy can make a shared home feel more like a shared home rather than a series of solitary rooms.
A few practical things:
- I donβt host guests regularly or throw parties.
- I have a bottle of single malt on the shelf. Itβs been there for a few years.
- I keep the kitchen tidy after meals and while cooking. It makes it easier to keep the ball moving.
- Iβm considerate about noise and shared spaces, and I generally keep my own area tidy as well.
What Iβm looking for:
As a roommate, you donβt have to build software or write code. Iβm mostly describing a general comfort with being goal-oriented, studious, or at least comfortable in a space where focus is part of the daily texture.
If youβre in tech, in a study-heavy field, or in a position where youβve got your own projects and deadlines moving forward, weβd probably fit well. Iβm otherwise fairly open about age, gender, and background, though, it is a small space with a dorm-like feel.
Iβm easy to live with, pretty much self-sufficient, and content doing my own thing while sharing the space.
