About the room

Update: Current lodger of this room is planning to leave temporarily by May 1st and return in September 2024 so I am renting the bedroom for ~4 months while she is gone. She is planning to leave her dresser, bedframe, and mattress behind for the next person to use while she is gone. Room will be ready most likely by May 1st if I don’t need to repair anything. I can do scheduled live or video viewings. If this ad is up, it means I am still in the process of finding someone so I am still receiving applicants.

(Note: LGBTQ+ friendly means your sexuality/gender is of no concern to me, just pay rent on time and follow our contract. I am straight and identify myself as XY male. Due to a dispute over the responsibility of taking care of one of the lodger’s dogs, I am no longer accepting pets.)

I own the house. I am looking for lodgers/roommates.

Since I live there too, I would be the live in landlord/roommate.

The house is a duplex. Street parking is available.

First floor: One shared kitchen, one shared living room, laundry shared room, and bathroom (which goes with the bedroom for this listing).

Second floor: Three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

All bedrooms have a full bathroom to go with them. Everyone in the household including me have our own bedroom and bathroom.

Master bedroom bathroom has a tub. The other two bathrooms have shower stalls. And a toilet and sink of course.

The bedroom for rent in this listing is the smaller bedroom for 1050/month. It is about 113 ft squared (10.5 m squared). Bathroom for this bedroom is down the stairs on the first floor. Both bedroom and bathroom combined is about 145 ft squared (13.5 m squared).

Utilities included (hydro, natural gas, internet).

All bedroom doors have lockable key knobs. This bedroom has a one way door guardian hinged lock.

Small backyard. Property is fenced.

First floor is about 745 ft squared (69 m squared). 606 ft squared (56 m squared) for second floor. Including the backyard, shed, and garage, the total should be about 1400 ft squared (130 m squared).

The bedrooms and bathrooms that goes with the bedrooms for rent are semi-furnished. There is a bookshelf attached to the wall of this bedroom.

The rest of the house is furnished…because I live there.

Neighbour’s duplex house is connected to my west wall. Entrance is on north wall. Patio door on east wall. South wall is an alley way where my neighbour walks through to get to their garage.

  3. Do video call for a virtual tour of my property or a live tour. Do questions and answers with each other.
  4. Show and go over agreement papers (contract). Make any changes if necessary to meet what the lodger(s) thinks is more fair.
  5. Sign papers and receive deposit to reserve the room.
  6. Lodger moves in on agreed upon date. I will help with the receiving of furniture if necessary.

About the roomies

Landlord: Born and raised in Vancouver. CBC first generation.

Not sure how the pronoun thing is supposed to work but I am straight and I identify myself as a male. I work at a food manufacturing plant full time with some side hustles on the side. Got to make that $$$.

I have been doing this renting bedrooms and bathrooms side hustle for over 2 years (Sept 2021 to present). I have had several lodgers/roommates. 95% of the time, everything is good. The lodgers are all interesting and came from different backgrounds. Here is my resume on who I have rented to so far:

I got a mortgage on the house so I am not living there for “free” either.

Hobbies: Piano, boxing, reading, watching movies, hustling, etc.

What I am bad at: Skiing (can’t stop no matter how hard I try), parallel parking, going up a lot of steps at once (like the Grouse Grind and the Chief).

Dislikes: Durian (yuck), stinky tofu (yuck), blue cheese (yuck)

Likes: Money. The more the merrier.

Other roommate in the other bedroom:

His name is Yannis. 23 years old. He is on holiday from Germany. Vietnamese-German. His hobby is brick dancing. He is currently working part time as a film extra.

Yannis and I get along pretty well. He follows the contract and doesn’t do stupid shit. We sometimes do stuff together (movies, go to events, eat out, etc.).
