About the room
Available July or August 1st, 2.5 housemates in total
Furnished Eco-home, 5 min walk to downtown Guelph, GO train/buses and buses to university shared with 1 other housemate, Nicholas, and 1 part-time housemate, Mary.
The owner, Mary, who lives mostly in Waterloo now, uses the 3rd room/office for her home practice about 3-4 days a week from 11 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. give or take. She also does home maintenance and gardening before she starts work and may rarely stay over night if needed.
South facing room with a good amount of light and also has black-out blinds. Furnished with an armoire, desk, side table and filing cabinet…You would need to provide your bed/linens.
The house has solar panels and a heat pump that provides heating/cooling without the need for natural gas.
Ideal for a mindful/kind, clean/tidy, eco-minded, non-smoking individual who would like a peaceful place to live.
Nicholas leaves around 8 a.m. and gets back around 5-7 p.m., makes dinner and settles in quietly for the evening or talks with his partner in New Zealand in his room, so the kitchen, living room, covered porch, garden/grass space are often free if you would like alone time, as both rooms are upstairs. The treatment room that Mary works out of is just off the living room…The picture with the mirrored doors.
We’re looking for a peaceful/light footed individual who knows the value in doing the little things to create harmony in a home. Plugging into your computer or using ear pods while listening to music or watching something is appreciated so that others can enjoy quiet if they want. Sharing music while cooking dinner is nice etc….Just want to be mindful of others.
Environmentally, someone who conserves energy, like turning down the heat at night and putting on a thick blanket, wearing a sweater and slippers in the winter, keeping the water flow to a minimum to rinse dishes, brush teeth, etc…saying that, it’s also important to be comfortable….So just finding a nice balance between mindful conservation and comfort.
The house smells of essential oils from my practice. We clean with non-toxic cleaners like hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol and effective, natural disinfectant. Natural laundry detergent is used. Synthetic smells like perfumes, shampoos, cologne, certain laundry detergents and incense can cause headaches and discomfort…so we’re looking for someone who avoids such things. I would just like to avoid ongoing synthetic smells. “Synthetic” being the main issue.
Rent is $1100 inclusive and includes:
- All utilities
- Wifi
- Some storage space in the basement
- Some storage space in the outside shed
- Some storage space in the upper washroom
- Kitchen cupboard space
- 1/2 fridge/freezer space (it’s a big fridge)
- Use of washer, dryer, drying racks and clothes line/pins
- Use of powerful blender, coffee bean grinder, water filter, bodem, dish washer, toaster etc. pretty much any appliances and dishes in the kitchen
There is no cigarette smoking on the property, even in the backyard (It’s just a really annoying/toxic smell to be imposed on people enjoying their backyard). I respect the use of plant teachers as long as they aren’t used to hurt yourself or annoy others through excessive, chronic use and air pollution (they make edibles to avoid that;) The occasional social toke is fine….I actually really like cannabis, but again, only if it doesn’t negatively affect others.
This place is ideal for someone who doesn’t have too much stuff as there is limited storage space and the living room/kitchen are furnished.
Looking forward to meeting you if we think this is a good fit for everyone:) Please tell me about yourself and your situation if you reach out. Thank you!!
About the roomies
Hey, I’m Mary. I have my part-time home practice here and I also live/work in Waterloo. I’m a big fan of gardening, saunas, trees, x-country skiing, dance, music, yoga, grounding, herbs/plants, hiking and the idea of weight training ;) It’s so good for you and I plan on doing more of it.
Nicholas is from Germany, but lives in New Zealand when not doing his post doc here at the university in food science. Nicholas is kind, respectful and works out of the house most of the days, Mon-Fri. He often talks with his partner in the evenings/weekends on the phone, but is quiet at bedtime.
