About the room
Available June 1st or after
Eco-home, 5 min walk to downtown Guelph, GO train/buses and buses to university shared with 1-2 housemates….But usually just shared with one person as I travel to Waterloo in the evenings and wkends, although, I may be around doing chores, hosting friends or staying over from time to time.
South facing room with a good amount of light and also has black-out blinds. Furnished with armoire, desk, side table and filing cabinet…You would need to bring your bed/linens.
Furnished Eco Home is shared with a female RMT (me) and a male Post doc in food science in their 40/30’s. Available June 1st, 2026 or later. The house has solar panels and a heat pump that provides heating/cooling without the need for natural gas.
Ideal for a respectful, mindful/kind, clean/tidy/organized, eco-minded, non-smoking, health minded individual who works out of the house Mon-Fri during the day…I may not be working on Mondays and Fridays…but my schedule shifts sometimes.
Someone who works or studies out of the home is ideal for the living situation. I run my massage therapy practice from home, so it’s essential that it’s quiet during the day, typically from Mon-Fri. I aim to finish my last massage at 5:15 p.m. but could go longer.
Nicholas leaves around 8 a.m. and gets back around 5-7 p.m. makes dinner and settles in quietly for the evening or talks with his partner in New Zealand in his room.
Looking for a peaceful/light footed individual who knows the value in doing the little things to create harmony in a home. Plugging into your computer or using ear pods while listening to music or watching something is requested so that others can enjoy quiet if they want. Sharing music while cooking dinner is nice etc….Just want to be mindful of others.
Environmentally, someone who conserves energy because they understand that when we mess up our environment, were basically doing the same to ourselves…So turning down the heat at night and putting on a thick blanket, wearing a sweater and slippers in the winter, keeping the water flow to a minimum to rinse dishes, brush teeth instead of full blast, etc…saying that, it’s also important to be comfortable….So just finding a nice balance between mindful conservation and comfort.
The house smells of essential oils from my practice. I clean with non-toxic cleaners like vinegar and effective, natural disinfectant. Natural laundry detergent is used. Synthetic smells like perfumes, shampoos, cologne, certain laundry detergents and incense can cause headaches and discomfort…so we’re looking for someone who avoids such things. I would just like to avoid ongoing synthetic smells. “Synthetic” being the main issue…I’m not too hypersensitive and sometimes I notice that Nicholas uses conventional shampoo and laundry soap, which is ok, but more natural stuff is preferred. Strong perfumes aren’t welcome though as it will cause a headache for me. I could ask Nicholas to change brands if you’re sensitive.
When I’m working, if you’re home on the rare occasion during the day, the house needs to be pretty quiet and the living room unoccupied. Quietly working upstairs with the door closed works well and taking food/kitchen breaks every hour when clients leave and I change up the room is a good time to run a blender or make noise in the kitchen. Refraining from cooking food like fish etc. would be greatly appreciated when clients are present. The driveway needs to be clear for clients to park when I’m working. Your car, if you have one, can be farther up the driveway or on the road. If you’re in the driveway during working hours, you’ll be able to access your car in the 45 min breaks when clients leave (usually every hour, but could be longer or shorter). Coming in and out of the backdoor would be the most helpful to reduce noise disruption when clients are present. There is a space in the kitchen for jackets and shoes so that the front hallway is left clear.
Rent is $1100 inclusive and includes:
- All utilities (if utilities rise up abnormally quickly from neglect/misuse, then sharing utilities may need to be introduced)
- Wifi
- Some storage space in the basement
- Some storage space in the outside shed
- Some storage space in the upper washroom
- Kitchen cupboard space and 1/2 fridge space
- Use of washer, dryer, drying racks and clothes line/pins
- Use of powerful blender, coffee grinder etc. pretty much any appliances and dishes in the kitchen
There is no cigarette smoking on the property, even in the backyard. I respect the use of plant teachers as long as they aren’t used to hurt yourself or annoy others through excessive, chronic use and air pollution. Hot boxing the neighbours is not ok… They make edibles to avoid that;) In general, this is a pretty substance free house.
This place is ideal for someone who doesn’t have too much stuff as there is limited storage space.
Looking forward to meeting you if you think this is a good fit for everyone:) Please tell me about yourself and your situation if you reach out. Thank you!!
About the roomies
Hey, I’m Mary. I have my home practice here and I’m usually at my partner’s place on weekends and weekday evenings. I’m a big fan of gardening, saunas, trees, x-country skiing, dance, music, yoga, grounding, herbs/plants, rock climbing, hiking, weight training.
Nicholas is from Germany, but lives in New Zealand when not doing his post doc here at the university in food science. Nicholas is kind, respectful and works out of the house most of the days, Mon-Fri. He often talks with his partner in the evenings/weekends on the phone, but is quiet at bedtime.
