About the room

My roommate and I are seeking a third roommate to share a large, detached, 4-bedroom, 2-bath house in the Brentwood neighbourhood of North Burnaby. Your living quarters would be upstairs, where there is a large and furnished living space. You can choose between the southwest-facing room, which is 160 sqft (14’2“ x 11’1“) with 150 cubic feet of closet space, or the northwest-facing room, which is 105 sqft (11’6“ x 9’2“) with 42 cubic feet of closet space. The kitchen is large, with full-sized appliances, and a separate dining room open to the living room. The living spaces, built in the 1950s, are generously sized.

On the property, we have a large, private mountain-view patio with ample cushioned seating. Outdoor smoking is permitted explicitly and by lease, although neither of us smokes cigarettes. Your roommate may occasionally enjoy some of that herbal kush, but that’s about it. We also have an undercover area with a space heater for comfortable mountain viewing. It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it. If that doesn’t appeal, we also have garden beds begging for attention. Gardening tools are available in the garage for your use.

Our neighbours include The Amazing Brentwood Mall, which features a SkyTrain station, food court, and VIP Cineplex movie theatres (VIP here means “no children, with food and alcohol”). Up the road, there’s the McGill Library, the community centre with pools and gyms, parks, tracks, and hiking trails. Down the other way, we have BCIT, so that’s convenient. SFU is also nearby, situated on a mountain somewhere.

The space is available now, starting April 15th, or May 1st. Happy to pro-rate rent to make things easiest for you if a different date would work better. Please reply with a bit about yourself, your timelines, whether you prefer a furnished or unfurnished room, and what keeps you busy.

Thank you for your time and attention!

About the roomies

You would share the upstairs bathroom and living space primarily with one roommate, D. She is an effervescent woman in her mid-forties who works part-time as a home healthcare aide. She is friendly, sweet, and tends to giggle to herself when she interprets something said as an innuendo. She is easy to talk to and considerate. Tragically, her path is taking her to the Okanagan soon, so we’ll be back on the hunt for another roommate upstairs this summer.

I live in the basement with a very friendly and well-trained dog. I am a homebody in my mid-thirties, born and raised in Vancouver. I possess an extensive collection of over 4,000 DVDs and BluRays that I’m happy to share. I work odd jobs and take on small contracts both on- and off-site. You won’t see much of me–I’ve made a little cave for myself with everything I need in the basement–but you’ll run into me and the dog out in the carport or on the patio.

We’re hoping to find someone who can fit amicably into our little home. The amenities and spaces lend themselves to builders/makers who appreciate the well-stocked workshop, or a gardener or aspiring green-thumb would do well with the beds out front. If you’re someone who likes to be close enough to the city to take the train into town, but goes home when it’s time to not do things, there’s plenty of space and spaces to focus on downtime. If you’re looking for a place where you can store your boards and bikes, that’s also an option. Heck, we have enough space here that if you’re an indoor cat who wants to carve out a spare room for office/gaming, I’m all for it. I’d love to help with cable management. Personally, I’m thinking about weatherizing the workshop so that I can restore and flip old furniture year-round, but that’s just my idea of a fun time. The sky is the limit. <3
