Description

I’m a pretty interesting and productive person. I crushed my neck at work 3 years ago building a solar farm, and had a headache for a year. My headache came back this past summer, so I’ve been living in a head-injury rehabilitation facility. I’ll need a place to live by January. I’m on a fixed-income, so Ontario Disability Services can direct-deposit my rent every month, if you want.

I can commit to a 12 month lease for 2026, but I’m also wiling to accept 4 to 12 month terms. (I might want to move closer to U of O as my workload increases).

I’ve lived a bunch of places for school and work, and I’ve had a lot of roommates. The consensus is that I’m one of the good ones: I’m easily [managed] with clear communication; I’m very clean; I label things; I’m never passive aggressive; I can shower in 5 minutes; I don’t leave hair anywhere; I don’t have body odour; I walk quietly; I have headphones. Total package!

Personality-wise, I’m super friendly and respectful, but people can have different first impressions of me based on the context. Most of my friends are LGBTQ/non-binary musicians or academics. (Boring) people who categorize everything as either “normal” or “weird” are constantly telling me how “weird” I am.

2nd impressions should include:

Total grown-up and nerd: I don’t stay up late or make noise. I cook really good vegan food, but I’m not a [preachy] vegan, and I like cooking for people. I’m pretty active at community centers because I need to exercise every day for my recovery. I regularly hang out at my sister’s with her kids, because I love Lego and I’m a fun-uncle. Otherwise, I spend a lot of time at libraries, and making spreadsheets or powerpoint presentations.

Such an old Fuddy-duddy: I hate social media, videogames, MMA; there are no pictures of me on the internet; I love classical music; I watch jeopardy every day; I refuse to talk about celebrities, trends, relationships, sex, or your workplace nemesis; etc.

Such a talented young-person: I always have something creative/crafty on the go, from needlepoint to public art-installations. I used to be in a metal band, (I still look like I’m in a metal band, but I can dress professional or fancy). Right now I just play a classical guitar, which isn’t very loud or annoying, and I can play when no one’s home / I hate people hearing me practice.

Finally, I am ALSO, such a grizzled retiree: For 10 years I was a renewable energy engineer, after being a mining engineering, but/therefore I am now an expert in corruption. I’ve lived in 5 provinces in the past 5 years, and 4 countries in the past 15 years. I grew a beard to go build solar farms in Saharan Africa. I was born in the Netherland, and moved to Canada as a child. I’ve always had musculo-skeletal disabilities, because my mom passed down epigenetic famine syndrome from WW2. Since hurting my neck 3 years ago and getting disability benefits, I’ve been able to focus my academic work and lobbyist-energy on climate change and sustainable investment. In between, I’ve also been a social worker, worked at homeless shelters, and facilitated support groups. I still volunteer with mental health charities but don’t plan on working/volunteering in shelters again any time soon.

WARNING: I have a nose for sketchy/mentally unhealthy people. I CAN NOT live with anyone who does hard drugs, gets drunk all the time, clearly needs a therapist, or brings home afterparty-strangers, con-artists, drug-dealers, hook-ups, etc. I might seem “cool”, but I am not “cool” about stuff that would disappoint your grandparents.
