About the room

Update: This master bedroom with en suite bathroom is available as long as this listing is up. Room is move in ready. It is furnished with a desk, chair, blankets, pillows, queen sized mattress, and bed frame (refer to pictures). Electricity, heated water (from natural gas), and internet are included in the rent.

(Note: LGBTQ+ friendly means your sexuality/gender is of no concern to me. I identify as XY male and I am straight. Cannabis friendly means I don’t smoke cannabis, but you can smoke outside in the backyard.)

Anyways:

I own the house. I am looking for lodgers/roommates. Since I live there too, I would be the live in landlord/roommate. Provincial law says I have to rent out this listing for at least 3 months at a time to meet some legal criteria.

The house is a duplex. Street parking is available.

First floor: One shared kitchen, one shared living room, shared laundry room, and a full bathroom.

Second floor: Three bedrooms and two full bathrooms.

Everyone in the household including me have our own bedroom and bathroom.

Master bedroom en suite bathroom has a tub. The other two bathrooms have shower stalls.

The bedroom for rent in this listing is the master bedroom for 1450/month. It is about 231 ft squared (21.5 m squared) including the en suite bathroom.

Utilities included (hydro, natural gas, internet).

All bedroom and bathroom doors have lockable knobs. This bedroom also has a bolt lock on the door from the inside of the bedroom.

Small backyard. Property is fenced. The fence minimizes disturbances from door to door salesmen.

First floor is about 745 ft squared (69 m squared). 606 ft squared (56 m squared) for second floor. Including the backyard, shed, and garage, the total should be about 1400 ft squared (130 m squared).

The bedrooms for rent are furnished. There is also a closet.

The rest of the house is furnished because I live there.

Neighbour’s duplex house is connected to my west wall. Entrance is on north wall. Patio door on east wall. South wall is an alley way where my neighbour walks through to get to their garage.

Located in Hastings Sunrise, East Vancouver near East 1st Avenue and Nanaimo Street.

We take turns doing chores (cleaning) of the common/shared areas.

In the past when renters don’t have a car and if their schedule matches with my schedule, I often drive them to buy groceries with me at the nearby T&T.

Feel free to message me for more details.

If interested, I plan, in order to:

  1. Chat a bit.
  2. Do screening questions (references, allergies, concerns, questions for me you may have, etc.). Please provide me with your email address.
  3. Do video call for a virtual tour or do a live tour of my property. Do Q/A.
  4. Show and go over agreement papers. Answer questions. The agreement is long, but most of the terms are common sense.
  5. Sign papers and receive deposit to reserve the room.
  6. Lodger moves in on agreed upon date. I will help with the receiving of belongings if necessary.

Thank you for reading.

About the roomies

Landlord: Born and raised in Vancouver. CBC first generation.

I work at a food manufacturing plant full time with some side hustles on the side. Got to make that $$$. My personality is INTJ. I am also an entrepreneur. You can check out what my business is about here: https://www.supersweetscienceboxing.com/

I have been doing this renting bedrooms and bathrooms as a side hustle since Sept 2021. I have had several lodgers/roommates. 98% of the time, everything is good. The lodgers are all interesting and came from different backgrounds. They bring their culture and experience to me. Here is my resume on who I have rented to so far. I collect them like stamps:

  1. Someone from Prince George, BC, who did painting
  2. Someone from Russia who worked in landscaping
  3. Someone from Toronto, Ontario who worked at night clubs
  4. Someone from Nova Scotia who was studying make up for film at VFS
  5. Someone from South Korea who was doing phD at SFU with something related to physiotherapy
  6. Someone from South Korea who was at Sprott Shaw College who was going into healthcare
  7. Someone from China who was studying early childhood education
  8. Someone from Brazil who was studying something to do with filming at Emily Carr
  9. Someone from France who studied digital marketing
  10. Someone from Germany who was on study travel and work holiday
  11. Someone from Ukraine who was here to be away from the war and on work holiday
  12. Someone from England who was here to work and explore Vancouver
  13. Someone local who was going to school and working
  14. Someone from Brazil who worked remotely with websites and stuff
  15. Someone from Brazil who is studying arts at Emily Carr
  16. Someone from Taiwan who was on work holiday (snowboarding during winter and some other jobs during summer)
  17. Someone from Japan (Japanese-Canadian). See description below.

I got a mortgage on the house so I am not living there for “free” either.

My hobbies: Piano, boxing, reading, watching movies, etc.

What I am bad at: Skiing (can’t stop while in motion no matter how hard I try), parallel parking, going up steps (don’t ask me to go to Grouse Grind and the Chief with you).

Dislikes: Durian (yuck), stinky tofu (yuck), blue cheese (yuck)

Likes: $$$

Other roommate: Maki. She is Japanese-Canadian and semi-retired. Her children are all grown. Her English is quite good, enough to have basic conversation with. Her cleaning standard is higher than mine (lol), but not OCD level so I am not bothered. We get along fine. She still works full time (by choice).

I found the site to be clear of scams which is very much appreciated since there's so much garbage out there on the web.

Roomies is my #1 go to whenever I want to list a room for rent because I always have a better experience with them than any of the other sites out there.
