John & Cathie have a bright one spacious basement bedroom that comes fully furnished with a large bright south facing window. A semi private (shared) furnished living space with a gas fireplace is rarely used by the owners is next to the bedroom and bathroom.

• separate private bathroom (shower but no bathtub)
• oversized refrigerator (located in basement common area)

If the tenant wishes we can move some of the furniture out of the room or moved around to suit your desires.

• washer and dryer in the basement,
• living space in the basement with 2 sofas, table with chairs
• shared access to home gym (limited weights with homemade TRX style system and use with pull up, push up and static workout systems)
• access to 2 sewing machines but only if you know how to sew (we do not do your repairs)

• upright freezer (storage of frozen foods must be marked and placed in main floor freezer only)

Backyard

• private fenced backyard
• large backyard deck covered with pergola. Surrounded by raised shrub and flower beds with lawn and lower patio. The back yard is being improved over this spring and summer.

• shopping nearby on Hazeldean Road, Kanata Centrum and city of Ottawa library,
• outdoor city community swimming pool,
• private tennis courts,
• arenas, sports fields,
• walkways and trails.

The neighborhood is very quiet and the neighbours watch out for everyone without being overly invasive or annoying.

The room is available from May 1st 2026 until July 31st 2026.

Owners John & Cathie live mainly on the main floor of the bungalow with their mid sized dog Freya who is a very well trained and very friendly Belgian Malinois. John is retired but very active with training and exercising Freya while keeping up with his diverse interests and hobbies. John takes Freya out for runs for between 5 to 20 km at a time, John is on his bike. Cathie works full time but she only works from the home office, a couple days a week. John and Cathie do not smoke and we are quiet. Periodically we may have friends over for a meal keeping to the main floor or back deck. We do not expect the person(s) renting the basement bedroom to hide, they are always welcome to join in.

The owners dog is well trained but is not certain how she would be with small animals, there is a no additional pet policy of any kind because of this. Freya is great with adults but has not have sufficient experience around young children. Freya bonds quickly with people she knows. She barks rarely and when she does it is likely a sign that someone is at the front door or she needs to go into the back yard. Freya bonds very quickly and we’ve never met anyone she doesn’t like. Freya is not the typical Malinois and this is largely due to her extensive and ongoing training. She is trained more for obedience, handling, scent training and specific techniques associated with bikejoring. The plan is to start training for tracking in the future. If you don’t like dogs there is no need for you to apply for the room.

Over the past 15 years of owning this home practically everything has been updated, removed and or renovated. From the outside the house is very deceptive, it is much larger inside than it looks like from the street. The living spaces are bright, spacious and very comfortable.

Generally we have the room available for longer terms but this year we have a large family function in July and August a long term tenancy has been agreed upon. There is a couple weeks flexibility at the end that could go to mid July if agreed upon. Over the past years we’ve had excellent feedback on the space and on the living conditions with the bedroom and of the home and neighborhood.
